William Merritt Chase (Nov.1,1849 - Oct 25,1916) was a great American artist. Chase was known as an advocate of Impressionism and an educator. It is because of him that the Chase School was established, which in time, would eventually become Parsons The New School for Design. William was born in Williamsburg, Indiana (presently Nineveh, Indiana). He showed a strong interest in art very early on and began studying at a young age.
